Imagination separates human being from other animals. It is this imagination that has lead to so many advancements and scientific discoveries. Mankind could achieve extra-ordinary things through a gradual learning process. He focused on what is required to survive and added comforts to his life through finding gaps between what he had and what he wanted.
This quality is so intrinsic that now most of the humans have a tendency to concentrate on what is missing in life more than being happy for what they have..!!
Mr. Dennis Prager (Radio talk show host & Author) recognizes it as "The Missing Tile Syndrome". He explained this theory by putting up a very simple example. If a tile is missing, in a room of otherwise perfect ceiling, a person tends to concentrate on the missing block. Unlike the ceiling, life can not be made perfect; as the list of missing tiles in life, is endless.
There will always be some tiles missing in our life, how much ever we try! Traits in spouse, our work, our looks, our car and on and on...
I feel this human trait is good if used in a constructive way, otherwise becomes obstacle on our way to happiness. Acceptance of missing tiles would be the first but sure step towards a happy life.
So try to start your day on the right note, things will automatically start falling into place.
Jot down 3 things that you are grateful for, in the morning or 3 amazing things that happened in the day, at night; for a week,

ReplyDeleteVery perticulate thought.. I do agree that "Adopting the missing tiles" would definitely lead to a better and a happier life.. But at the same time, I am afraid, that if this incessant nature of a person dies, he/she might not be as successful as others because "Being unsatisfied with what you currently have, is MUST for being successful".. Isn't it?
ReplyDeleteWell, the idea here is not to focus only on the missing tile. Knowing what is missing from life and working towards filling tge gap, is a sign of progress but focussing only on the tile and not feeling grateful about the available tiles may lead to depression and insecurity in long term.
DeleteNone of the human traits are peculiarly harmful as it has helped the race to survive. Yet, evolution in these traits is also equally important as possessing them.
I hope this has solved your query. Thank you for raising such a debatable question connected to the topic. I surely assume you to be a good introspector.
Oh yes.. You have surely solved my query.. I appreciate your point of view and I would like to view things from that aspect as well... Looking forward for more such observant articles....
