Personal
branding focuses on “Self-Packaging,” where
“Success
is not only determined by individuals’ internal sets of skills, motivations,
and interests but also by how effectively they are…branded”
It is
more about self-promotion rather than true self-expression. The difference between
the two is that self-promotion is deliberately intentional in all aspects
because the individual is purposely shaping their image or persona, while
self-expression can even be a byproduct of promotion.
vs.
It might sound a bit technical. A simple example for people interested in simple ways of understanding is......
You come across two people in a social gathering. One is astonishingly courteous
and charming, acknowledging the crowed, having a glass of exquisite wine
available. The other one is average looking guy sitting in nearby corner, staring
at the entrance, immersed in his thoughts. If both appeal to you to make an
investment in their respective companies, whom would YOU oblige?
A financial
answer is where you see the better returns. But if I ask, whose companionship
would you lure? (without knowing any one of them) Then… May be this time the Emotional Quotient would over power
your Intelligence Quotient. This is Personal Branding.
Generally
people perceive that end result to Personal Branding are made up facts, fake
information and dummy publicity stunts. Disagreeing to them, I would like to
declare, it is nothing even near to that. Many celebrities and their PR Teams
have misunderstood the concept as a manipulative technique and are suffering
the deeds.
Personal
Branding is a magnifying tool to enlarge and display your good features,
qualities and achievements so that your negatives are adequately covered in
public. After a period of time your negatives are accepted in public with as
equal grace as for your strengths.
That’s the
power of Branding.
